[HPADM] Summary: Sendmail not using FQDN

Thanks to Bill Hassell, Bob Vance and Ed for replying.

All had good suggestions, but the fix was to comment out the Dj macro in the
sendmail.cf file and let sendmail resolve the FQDN from system calls.

Thanks.

>From Ed:

Hello Ray,

Your sendmail configuration (or smtp server) is probably setup for
masquerading.
Check for DMyourdomain.com in the config file (probably
/etc/mail/sendmail.cf, it depends)

Best regards,
Edward

>From Bob Vance:

Hmm.
Actually, it appears that $j is simply the result (equivalently) of a

   nslookup `hostname`

and I was able to reproduce what you had by modifying the DNS lookup.
So, do the nslookup in your case and see what it shows. Probably either
your DNS or /etc/hosts file is incorrect.

>From Bill Hassell:

Have you edited /etc/mail/sendmail.cw? This is an alias list for names of
the
local machine. hostname should really be the simple name (rather than FQDN)
to
avoid problems with other programs/scripts. Domain info comes from
/etc/resolv.conf. What does nslookup report?
