Thanks to those who responded so quickly - you're all great!

The suggestions were for Glance or lsof. I've looked at these
utilities and they don't give what I'm looking for.

I should have been more specific. I'm looking for a hpux cmd like
aix's filemon utility, which lists activity-by-file:
reads/writes/seeks/#bytes/etc per file.
