My thanks to Roger Best, Eef Hartman and Bill Hassell, as well as to the folks at HP's back end predictive support..

The main thing to change in the getttydefs is to find the entry for high-speed modems, then change CS7 to CS8 and remove PARENB.

Also I found that I needed to change #login to #login: #9600.. actually I think I still had a parenb in but it still works !
