[HPADM] dead harddrive?

Hi all--

I have an older HP-UX machine with an external SCSI harddrive. It died in
the middle of the night and now it won't boot up. It gets hung up while it
is looking for a bootable device. It finds the drive when searching for
bootable devices, but if you ask it to boot to that drive, the computer
hangs. When you first turn the drive on, it sounds like it's spinning up,
but stops spinning after about 30 seconds.

I've tried reseating all components in the computer and drive, and swapping
out the SCSI cable.

I'm planning to restore this machine to a new drive, but does this
description sound like a definitive problem with the drive, the external
chassis, the SCSI controller, etc.? Should I tried something else first?

Thanks,
Janet
