Hi Bruno,

Do you have the later version 3.3 of OnlineJFS though ? To check do
swlist -l bundle, you should see;

  B3929BA B.11.00 HP OnLineJFS (Advanced VxFS)
  B3929CA B.03.03 JFS 3.3 Filesystem For 11.00
  B3929CA-fndation B.11.00 Foundation Patch Bundle for JFS
3.3

This means you have JFS 3.3 and can do an online reduce. If so simply
do;

fsadm -b <newsize in MB*1024> /var
lvreduce -L <new size in MB> /dev/vg00/lvol8

Make sure the fsadm command works first, it should report that there are
some PE's in use on the part of the lvol you are trying to reduce and it
will tell you it its attempting to move them out of the way first, this
may take some time but it should work fine.

Even if you dont have the later version of OnlineJFS 3.3 installed you
can attemtp the above fsadm command with the older version of OnlineJFS
(just much more chance it will fail), you may get lucky and it will work
if no PE's are in use on the part of the lvol you are trying to reduce,
then you can do the lvreduce.

Cheers,

Stefan
