We have two 3.5 Cell Managers (with current plans to upgrade to 4.1). Until
I arrived, all tapes were manually initialized (one at a time) by the
Operations group. Being someone who likes to use computers for automation, I
suggested that we allow the tapes to auto-initialize. Unfortunately, since
doing this, we get lots of "phantom" mount requests: looking for tapes that
are no longer in the tape library, asking for tapes that are already
mounted, mounting and initializing tapes even when non-full tapes in the
same Pool are in the library.
No. We don't not have the "use uninitialized tapes first" button checked.
Has anyone had good success with auto-initialize? Is 4.1 better at tape
management?
