Backup Express is an enterprise-wide
backup and restore system that operates in UNIX (all versions),
Windows NT/2000 and NetWare environments. Its distributed architecture
gives it the flexibility to optimize network usage by sending backup
data over only specifically designated segment(s) of a network.
At the same time, it provides centralized control of all backup
and restore functions with a single catalog accessible through an
intuitive, point-and-click graphical interface on any UNIX or Windows
node with TCP/IP. Backup Express allows multi-hosting -- multiple
servers directly connected to tape library drives with individual
SCSI or fibre channel connections - so that vast amounts of data
can be streamed simultaneously with little or no network impact.
It also provides full support for all of the leading automated tape
libraries, as well as SANs (storage area networks), NAS (network
attached storage) appliances, and NDMP (Network Data Management
Protocol). Other significant features include comprehensive scheduling,
reporting, and integrity checking. Backup Express also supports
online backup for Oracle, SAP, MS Exchange, Lotus Notes, SQL Server,
Informix, and Sybase. All of this is backed by the finest technical
support in the industry, which includes Syncsort's unique Install-By-Phone
(IBP) program. **A Windows 2000 Magazine benchmark test found Backup
Express to be 25% faster than any other multi-platform backup/restore
product tested.
