HackerShield
1.1

Supplier:

BindView Development Corporation
Platforms:

Win NT
Description:

HackerShield is anti-hacker software that finds and closes the holes that hackers use to break into servers, workstations and other IP devices. Unlike other security products, which simply erect barriers on your network, HackerShield fortifies your servers by continuously identifying and repairing security holes.

HackerShield protects against both internal and external hackers. It finds holes the way a hacker would - by probing the operating system and the network. After each scan, HackerShield prepares an easy-to-read report. It tells you what holes are on your servers, where they are and how to close them. Some of them it can even close automatically.

HackerShield maps your network to create an inventory of your servers, workstations and other IP devices. Using this network map, it probes each device for programs that contain security holes. Holes that could be exploited over the Internet (or intranet). HackerShield uses a database of known hacker techniques to find and close holes on firewalls, web servers, mail servers, database servers, file servers, routers and other IP devices. It can find holes on Unix, Windows NT and Windows 95/98 operating systems as well.

HackerShield scans the operating system and internal configuration of each NT server. It automates the process of checking for missing OS patches, specifically ones that could result in security breaches. It also checks NT servers and workstations for the integrity of key system files, file directory permissions, and registry values and permissions.
