The OpenTouch fingerprint authentication sensor is part of a complete personal authentication system from Veridicom that provides biometric identification capability to any electronic device. Designed to replace passwords and PINS, provide access to computers and networks, secure laptop computers, and even replace conventional mechanical locks, the OpenTouch system consists of four components: the silicon sensor, image analysis software, matching software, and data protection software. Each plays a crucial role in keeping data and personal information secure and tamper-resistant - extremely important features with the proliferation of electronic commerce and online information technology.

The OpenTouch sensor can even be built into smart card and bank card readers to reduce ATM and point of sale fraud and serve as the ultimate personal key for Internet commerce, while maintaining the privacy of a fingerprint. The sensor is the size of a postage stamp and was a first in the industry to use capacitive rather than optical images to extract a unique, three-dimensional representation of the fingerprint called a template.
