MAGNITUDE is based on XIOtech's REDI (Real-Time Data Intelligence) Storage Architecture. REDI Storage Architecture accumulates the performance of many individual disk drives and shares the total performance with every attached server. REDI Storage Architecture uses Intelligent Virtual Disks (IVD) to map data across the total number of physical drives in a system, and Queue Management Technology (QMT) to optimize and manage large queues in an effective manner. The result is a new storage architecture, which dramatically outperforms conventional RAID storage solutions.

MAGNITUDE's virtualized storage structure and sophisticated set of data management and data movement tools makes it the perfect centralized storage companion for powerful operating systems, providing instant connectivity to Windows NT, NetWare, Linux, HP-UX, AIX, Solaris, IRIX, UnixWare and MacOS.

By virtualizing the available disk capacity, MAGNITUDE allows administrators to add capacity and change the configuration of existing volumes without interrupting data access. All capacity requirements are managed through a single GUI, eliminating the need to re-cable or re-assign drives to logical units, dramatically simplifying overall storage management operations.

In addition to the hardware expandability, functionality of MAGNITUDE can be enhanced while online by integrating any of six REDI storage software modules, including REDI Storage Manager, the virtualization cornerstone of the REDI software family.

1. REDI Storage Manager enables users to share storage across all attached servers, allowing enterprise-wide capacity planning and load balancing
2. REDI Storage Manager allows on-line configuration capabilities - adding drive capacity, moving volumes between servers, adding, removing, or expanding virtual drives.
3. REDI Zone is a clustering solution that allows the assignment of one or more servers to a set of virtual drives for data zoning.
4. REDI Path allows load balancing and connection failover for Windows NT and NetWare server connections.
5. REDI Volume Director provides LUN mapping/masking capabilities for FC-AL server connections ­ assign specific storage to specific servers without fear of data corruption.
6. REDI Copy enables the easy creation of mirrored copies of MAGNITUDE virtual volumes. An ideal solution for zero-window centralized backup, Y2K testing and versioning
7. REDI Control provides all of the functionality of the MAGNITUDE Management Console on a Windows NT interface, enabling creation, expansion and reassignment of volumes
8. REDI Control also monitors the MAGNITUDE online from a remote location.
