Description:

The NetStore service is used to safeguard data on either desktop PCs or, increasingly, the laptop computers of mobile executives. Once configured with NetStore's client application, users can connect to the Company's Secure Data Centre via the Internet or an Extranet to backup their data via an ordinary telephone line, ISDN, or by using a GSM phone with a PC Card modem - whether in the office, a hotel room, or while sitting on the train.

NetStore uses a patented data blocking technology called Delta Blocking to transmit only a subset of an individual file that has actually changed. This reduces the amount of data to be transmitted when compared against conventional backup techniques.

Delta Blocking splits a file into small 'chunks' when it is first backed up. On subsequent backups, only the chunks that have changed are compressed, encrypted and then transmitted to the NetStore data repository.

Backed up files are able to be restored at any time. And, since NetStore utilises the Internet to transfer files, mobile users can access files from anywhere in the world. All versions of files are maintained for as long as an account is maintained with NetStore, so that it is even possible for users to restore files that have later been modified or even deleted.

Security is not compromised; data backed up using NetStore is encrypted as it leaves the users PC using the US Federal Government 56-bit Data Encryption Standard (DES). Data never leaves this encrypted form until it is restored on a users PC.
