OfficeScan provides corporate
desktop virus protection with integrated central management. Administrators
can ensure anti-virus software is deployed to the desktop is operational,
updates are pushed to desktops on schedule, and activities are reported
centrally in real-time, enforcing security policies.
OfficeScan provides automatic updating that can
be prescheduled at specific intervals or accessed manually. Either
approach ensures that the latest pattern updates and program files
are delivered directly to your desktops.
OfficeScan clients report events to the server,
providing up-to-date status reports. When viruses are detected,
information is sent immediately to the server. OfficeScan maintains
a comprehensive virus incident activity log on the server that
tracks:
- Machine name and IP number
- Date and time
- Detection type
- Virus name
- File name
- Action taken
In addition to virus events, clients also report
client activity and status.
OfficeScan uses both rule-based and pattern recognition
technology to provide real-time virus detection and removal. OfficeScan
also incorporates MacroTrapTM generic scanning engine, which detects
and removes known and unknown macro viruses. Multi-layered recursive
compressed file scanning detects viruses inside files compressed
with most common compression algorithms.
Administrators can be notified of virus incidents
via e-mail or pager. OfficeScan monitors all virus activity on
networked desktops; if it detects unusual, or possibly uncontrolled,
virus activity, it can send a special Outbreak Alert via pager
and/or e-mail to the administrator. The default threshold is 100
virus events recorded across the network in an hour; this figure
can be customized for individual organizational requirements.
