It is possible that one of the entries has hidden characters in the name.
Try this -
ls -l|grep ^d|cat -vet
One of the two entries will then show up with the hidden character(s). Note
that the $ sign at the end of the line signifies end-of-line. Watch out for
a space character before the end-of-line $ sign.

This is something peculiar i have observed in one of the home
directories. I could not understand how can there be 2 directories(usf3pres3
as seen in my listing) with same name. Can someone tell me how this would
have happened.
