[Q] what is atmsvcd on AIX?

We have AIX 4.3.3 running on RS/6000. I check processes (ps -ef) and found
there have following items on it:

root 16526 1 0 Mar 05 - 0:00 /usr/sbin/atmsvcd -i 0
root 16782 16526 0 Mar 05 - 0:00 /usr/sbin/atmsvcd -i 0

also in inittab file:
atmsvcd:2:once:/usr/sbin/atmsvcd >/dev/console 2>&1

does any one know what is atmsvcd? Is it ATM interface? We used to have
ATM interface, but we change to Gigabit Ethernet. Can I remove the entry on
inittab file?
