I've done this before with a non-SSA RAID set, and it worked fine.
Granted, the box we did it with had controllers in the disk cabinet, but
I think it should be just fine.
One thing you may want to check is that firmware and AIX fileset levels
are the same between the 2 boxen so you don't get any weirdness due to
drivers or firmware being different...
