Cron as Root and .netrc File

I am trying to set up some automatic FTP'ing and am using the .netrc file. I have it working fine as a standard user but my hopes are to eventually schedule it to run via cron.

Since it will be running as root I am wondering where the .netrc file should be located so that it can run via root through a cron'ed process.

Any pointers or suggestions for automatic FTP'ing via cron as root would be greatly appreciated.
