Certainly, as I am also an old Tru64 admin.

1. Yes. mirrorvg -S rootvg will do it.

2. AIX does not rebuild kernels like Tru64. In fact, you don't rebuild the
kernel ever. Most parameters are dynamically changable, so there is no need.
Or they are set to max and can't be changed. Look at /usr/samples/kernel/vmtune
and /usr/samples/kernel/schedtune for some of the parameters. lsattr -E -l sys0
for some of the other ones. Smitty -> system environments contain others. Use
the no command for network options.
Shared memory you don't/can't change.

3. AIX defaults to 32 bit not 64 bit. You have to enable it. jfs2 supports
large file systems better than jfs. The lvm of Tru64 and aix are about the same
in functionality, but read up on it. Disks are divided into 4MB partitions
which can be grouped and added to filesystems/logical volumes on the fly.
Mirroring is done on the partion (4MB) chunk, not disk partitions like you are
used to. You can not remove a partition from a filesystem like you can in
Tru64, nor can you shrink an already allocated filesystem on the fly.

Walk your way through smit. While it does not contain all options for any
thing, it handles basic admin pretty well. In smit, once you are about ready to
do something, hit F6 and it will tell you want command line it will run to
actually do the work. Thus, you can then read about that command.

Look at the files in /etc/security like user and limits.

Finally, AIX uses the ODM - a database in /etc/objrepos, to store lots of
configuration information. Some of the files you are used to are there - inetd,
services, etc. Lots of stuff are only in the odm. Look at the commands -
lsdev, lscfg, lsattr, lsvg, lslv, lsfs for good starting places.

Subject: 2 Questions

Hi All:

I am new AIX administrator with sold background of Tru64 Unix, so Pls.
could any one advise me of the following:

1. Is it possible to mirroring the rootvg in AIX V5.1 ? If yes, how
could I do it ?

2. Some times, its useful to rebuild the kernel, at Tru64 Unix I will
run #doconfig, what I have to do at AIX V5.1 to rebuild the kernel.

3. Does any when have a quick knowledge transfer from Tru64 Unix to AIX
Unix.

Thanx in advanced.
