You don't have to go through AIX 4.3.3 to go to either AIX 5.1 or AIX 5.2; I
checked both installation guides. You will want to do a migration
installation; this is the default.
If you're going to AIX 5.2, there is a long list of unsupported RS/6000
hardware. I've provided IBM's Statement of Direction below for your
reference. If you're going to AIX 5.1 you can ignore the list.

AIX 5L version 5.1 is the last release of AIX that will support RS/6000

in October 2002, will not support hardware based on these bus architectures
