sysdumpdev command is a shell script. not real easy to follow the logic, though. I discussed this with my coworker last week, and i think there used to be something about not being able to dump the dump on boot if it was compressed. not sure, though.

Is there any reason NOT to have "dump compression" ON for your system dump
device (sysdumpdev -C) ?

How is the size needed for dump (sysdumpdev -e) calculated? How does it
grow on a server that has not had any additional hardware (memory) add?
