just a couple tuning parameters you should consider for tsm clients:

Add the following to your .opt file on the client:
txnbytelimit 2097152 **forces the client to buffer this much(2G)
data or the max # of files, (whichever comes first) before sending to the
server
which decreases network IO and should increase
performance dramatically
compressalways no
LARGECOMMBUFFERS yes
resourceutilization 6 ** this is the resource max parameter the
tsm client uses as its ceiling for starting processing threads(producers)
and data handler threads (consumers)
setting this to 5-6 is safe, but you may choose
to set it as high as 8 if you have the system resources....

TEST TEST TEST bc you can speed up a backup 4fold by using the above

I have just upgraded one of our AIX 4.3.3 clients from ADSM 3.1 to TSM 4.1
running TDP 3.2 for SAP R3. Although the backup and restores work OK, they
are a lot slower. Is there any tuning parameters that need to be reset or
added?

Also when I tried to restore the above backup it failed with the following
error code. I tried to perform the restore again because I thought there
may be some network communication errors ( I was doing the task remotely )
but after about 4 to 5 hours it failed, with the same error code.

BR266E Program '/usr/sap/ES0/SYS/exe/run/backint -u ES0 -f restore -i
/oracle/ES0/sapbackup/.rdlipdri.lst -t file -p /oracle/ES0/dbs/initES0.utl'
interrupted, exit status: 8b
BR272E Execution of program '/usr/sap/ES0/SYS/exe/run/backint -u ES0 -f
restore -i /oracle/ES0/sapbackup/.rdlipdri.lst -t file -p
/oracle/ES0/dbs/initES0.utl' through pipe failed.

Any ideas of what may be going wrong?

Just for info the SAP database I am trying to restore is approx 420GB in
size.
I have restored the system OS, via a mksysb backup, to how it was prior to
the TDP upgrade and restore from a previous ADSM SAP backup to get the
system back. This worked OK!

Any information would be useful.
