Thanks muchly for the offer of help. I should have used it - instead I
screwed up the machine. Since disabling wasn't working well for me
yesterday, I tried creating a tty1 on the s2 port, pointing the console at
it, and when that didn't work, I tried commenting out that line in the
inittab with the respawn in it. When I rebooted the machine, I could get
only as far as putting in a password into the terminal session, then it
hung. Had to reattach a real console to the 630. No matter how I tried
to bring it up (like into service mode), it would hang. My supervisor was
trying to figure out which light was flashing on the front of the 630, so
he unplugged the machine from the network. Then it did come up, it was
the network light flashing. I can't see any connection to what I did and
the network.
After all of this frustration, I've been told that the console server
should be taking the connection, I shouldn't have to change to rts flow
control, the problem isn't at my end after all. Its been one of those
days!
