Re: Things not starting in inittab

Basically, yes. Technically, you were still IN inittab, running
install_assist ... You'd never exited the inittab startup process. Once
you exited install_assist properly (removing its entry from inittab),
you continued that execution, and all future executions should work now.

But, just running the "install_assist" did bring it up.

I went in and I went out cleanly. I rebooted and WOW - The daemons
started !!!!?!!????

So, all the lines in the /etc/inittab file below that "install_assist"
were held-up waiting for that to be completed?

install_assist.

run "smitty install_assist" and perform a proper exit.

Or you could just comment out or remove this entry from the inittab.

And what runs in the inittab prior to these entries? Please print
several lines, not just one.

Many thanks!

Folks,

Have a few P655's running AIX 5.2 (two running 5.1).

All have the same lines in /etc/inittab

   qdaemon:23456789:wait:/usr/bin/startsrc -sqdaemon
   writesrv:23456789:wait:/usr/bin/startsrc -swritesrv
   dt_nogb:2:wait:/etc/rc.dt

Yet, more than one of them, after a reboot is not running any of these
daemons?

On one of the 5.2 boxes, see in the log file /var/adm/ras/conslog

qdaemon: 0781-290 Terminated due to signal.

Any thoughts why these lines are not properly starting their daemons? I
can start all three manually with no problems.

Thanks,
