Sounds network'ish to me. Like a VLAN manager loosing where the box is.
Or bad or expired arp entries?

This would be true if it required you to do a ping "out of the problem box"
to someplace else. That would show that it needed to announce itself and a
path to it so others could find it.

Question: Do you have multiple ethernet interfaces in use?

We had a similar problem on an HA system. It worked out that the box took
packets in more than one interface, but always talked out just one. The
network LAN manager got confused that he was talking to one port and
answers were coming from another. Finally timed out. Also seen same when
HACMP or VCS would fail over to the secondary ethernet card.... It had to
do a ping out right afterwards or no one could find the box on the new card
which was on a different port on a different card in a different hub of our
network.

Hope that helps somehow,

you can ping the box from elsewhere, but you cannot ping from the box? How
are the cpu/memory stats?

Hi sys admins,

I have a 7028 6C4 machine (actually 3 in a rack) that few times when i try
to telnet to the machine from another unix box the login stops before
connected to aixtest08,
Escape character is '^]'
and hangs there...

when I got to the console, the machine cannot communicate to any other box;
however if I ping from another machine it comes back without any problem.

I needed to reboot the box.

Do you have any idea or clues of what is going on.

This happens on two machines of same type 7028 6c4 that are racked
together.
Could this be a temperature issue, it is very hot near the boxes. ?

thank you all for your help.
