We've been using IBM 7205 35GB DLT drives on several servers for mksysbs and
the like for a few years and they've been very good. I don't recall a
single problem with any of them.

With the IBM tape drives the system boots quite happily off DLT as well.
(I've only tried this on one box, to be honest.) If you don't need that
capability then any DLT drive should be OK, and you'll still be able to use
it for cloning once you boot off CD. Loads of cheaper options that way.
(They're all(?) made by Quantum: the IBM just has different microcode and
drivers.)
