Re: NFS cross-mount issue

Bill

I've had this one too.

It looks like the NFS system gets overwhelmed by the amount of requests and
gives up.

You could try cross mounting it with bigger read/write block sizes, or what
we did and mount it over UDP rather that TCP. This worked like a charm.

The change to UDP is the IBM recommended fix for this I later found out.

Even though it's HACMP doing the mounting, the script that does it will
interrogate /etc/filesystems for any extra NFS parameters. So, create
entries for the filesystems you want and get HACMP to re-cross mount them.

Thanks

Steven

Scenario:

2 SP nodes AIX 4.3.3, PSSP 3.4, HACMP 4.4.0 (PSSP upgrade completed
this past weekend)
SSA disk attached to system 1
10 filesystems on SSA disk mounted under name 1-10
10 filesystems named 1-10 NFS mounted on same system 1 as filesystems
11-20
10 filesystems named 1010 NFS mounted on system 2 as filesystems 11-20

Problem:

When a job runs, the NFS mounts on system 1 hang up (you can't "ls"),
the application dies,
The NFS mounts on system 2 are fine.
The SSA mounts on system 1 are fine.
The offending job gets no CPU time.
There is much network activity on the NFS segment (private tokenring
segment between the 2 servers - and 2 others)

Question:

What is going on ? Why does this job bury the NFS mounts ?
Did the PSSP upgrade break something ?
Is there a known NFS cross-mount issue I may be seeing ?

Background:

smitty | clverify: Checks out OK
     Patch level: ML10
     NFS Client: 4.3.3.81
     NFS Server: 4.3.3.11

I've run traces and everything and I'm pretty stumped so far.
