Ken,

The following is from the redbook: Samba Installation, Configuration, and
Sizing Guide, SG24-6004-00, available at:
www.redbooks.ibm.com

This book goes into installing on AIX:

"Now, if you wish to use inetd to start the Samba daemons, enter suitable
lines in the file /etc/inetd.conf, such as the following:

netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd smbd
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd nmbd
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/local/samba/bin/swat swat

After editing the files, type refresh -s inetd."

This has helped me allot.

I want to invoke the web browser for swat as you stated: http://server:901

Step 1: I have modified the /etc/services for SWAT:

added:

swat 901/tcp # added for samba swat

I found this line in my RH Linux 7.3 Bible for swat.

Step 2: The other file that the RH Linux 7.3 bible says to change is:
/etc/xinetd.d/swat file

What is the equivalent file in AIX for samba? In this file, you enable swat
by disable=no.

??

The best way (I feel..) to configure Samba is using Swat(Samba Web
Administration Tool) program.
Remove comments or ass swat program in /etc/services and inedt.conf
files and access samba server using http://server:901
There you can get all the help and can configure samba server
attributes.
Hope this helps.

I have downloaded Samba 2.2.5.0 from bullfreeware.

I have installed Samba 2.2.5.0 onto AIX 4.3.3.10.

I have looked at the "How To's" for Linux on samba.org. and am familiar
w/Linux--no programmer, just Admin.

Where do I find instructions for configuring Samba on AIX??

Books??

etc??
