Re: send/receive files using dial-up modem

Rather than sending this person down another road that may be prone to error
and setup/config problems, if their AIX system has a compiler, the very
first search on the web I performed ended up with this site:

        ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/unix/zmodem/rzsz3_36.zip
        ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/unix/zmodem/rzszmake.txt

Not too many others carry it any more. You'll need to compile it on the AIX
box, but it should work fine after that.

If you also need to install a compiler (GNU gcc compiler, for example), you
may consider going the FTP route after all ... level of effort getting
everything right on either side is about the same, and you don't change the
AIX system as much.

Good luck.

You might consider setting up a PPP server on the AIX box, then you could
use FTP.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I'm not
sending/receiving between 2 AIX but rather
from a PC and an AIX server.

try looking up uucp & uuto commands. The files you want to send may need to
be uuencoded ( converts bin to ascii or vice versa). See man for details

I know I can't use FTP since this is not
a TCP/IP connection but simple dial-up.
Is there a shareware zmodem protocol
to send/receive files from AIX 4.3.2?

TIA
Joe
