Connecting pSeries 7028-630 (6C4) to an existing SP

Hello,

has anybody tried to connect pSeries 7028-630 (6C4)
to an existing SP as an external node ?

IBM says you need HMC (HW management console like for Regatta)! which
connects via serial cable both to node and to control workstation.

I don't understand why so expensive "serial port convertor" , why not
connect the node directly to CWS like for example B80 or 6H1.

Many thanks for any opinion.
