The best unix for you is the one you have most inhouse knowledge; as long as you run oracle.
For certain apps the best unix might be the one the app was written on.
F.e. I´d always prefer AIX for DB2 or Linux for all the gnu-stuff (or tru64 for tru-cluster ;-).

What your dbas say is ridiculous. Hard to believe well paid managers make decisions based on this.
