Re: Hostid in Hex?

Theresa,

If this is for a license, keep in mind that the hostid is nothing more that
the HEX representation of the IP address associated with the machines
bostname. (For example, 0xc4010101 is hex for 196.1.1.1, and 0xc0a803ce is
hex for 192.168.3.206). If you change the IP address for that, the hostid
will change and the license will no longer work.

If they can, they should use the 'uname -m' output. On AIX this is the
equivalent to the Solaris hostid. It is tied to the hardware and will not
change until the motherboard is replaced.

Forgive me if this is a silly question - but is there a way to get a
"hostId" in hex? I've been asked to provide some information and I'm not
sure where to get it.

Here is a sample of what the vendor is requesting:

Hostid :
c1f1n1in: 0xc4010101
c1f1n3ex: 0xc0a803ce

If this looks familiar to anyone please let me know what command I can use
to get the info.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!
Theresa
