Re: TZ Question

Hi Bill,

I am only using seperate timezones within scripts (generally to get
yesterdays date) but changing the timezone should only alter the users
(and apps running under their userid) view of the date. Basically since
the underlying time values are still stored in seconds since 1970, when
the user accesses any date function it converts from seconds into the
current date/time by converting using the timezone rule. Thus other users
(and the system) will be unaffected by individual users settings.

I hope this helps,

Cheers,

        Subject: TZ Question

Anyone out there running separate timezones on their boxes ?

for example: /etc/environment has "CST6CDT"
          /home/someuser/.profile has "CUT0GDT"
someuser is an application ID and a major app runs under that
ID.

?

I have been asked to support this, and I am unclear as to the impact.
