John,
I just tried this and it worked but it takes about 3-4 mins to connect. We
are now putting a sniffer on to see why. Thanks for the direction.

is the entry in the .rhosts file fully qualified for domain and subdomain
names?

Subject: rsh-rlogin

Admins,
I am trying to do a rlogin or rsh from an AIX 4.3.3 F40 to an AIX 3.2.5 220
and it keeps asking me for a password. I have the same user set up on both
systems. Each user has a .rhosts file with 600 permisions and is owned by
that user. Each system has an entry in the /etc/hosts file for the opposite
system. /etc/netsvc.conf is setup for hosts=local, bind the resolv.conf has
the correct entries for the DNS servers. I can do an rsh from the 3.2.5
system to the 4.3.3 system without any problems but cannot rsh from the
4.3.3 system to the 3.2.5 systems. I can also rsh from the 3.2.5 system to
an HP-UX system but cannot go the opposite direction. I have read all the
entries in the archives and they all refer to the above mentioned files. I
have tried everything I can think of. Any other ideas would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim Naylor
