never used sudo, don't know whats involved into using it. i just figured i could use su w/ redirect, etc. but it doesnt work. at this point i am stuck doing su's from root. thanks to all who replied!

The danger with expect is that you've got to supply a password from
somewhere.
I've come across a Perl module that will do this in a supposedly secure
fashion. I think the source is supplied with PSSP, but I don't know any
more about it than that.
