We had this problem on an F50. There is an issue with the CD firmware and
is in the release notes of 5.1.
You can upgrade it yourself; but the notes say get a CE to do it.

I am loading AIX 5.1 on an F-80 an install I have done many times with
other machines. But as soon as the system reads the CD to start the
install the next thing I get is:

Has anyone seen this before and if so, any ideas what is going on. I am
going to try another set of cd's just incase.
