I agree with John and adding that NIS+ could not be available on all UNIX
flavors (AIX and Solaris have it). Problems too with LDAP on AIX433, cos
it's almost impossible to get the same standard LDAP server configuration
on an heteregeneous UNIX environment (default LDAP support on AIX433 is the
worst that I saw ;-(.

About NIS and LDAP, if you start with NIS, the partial/full migration to
standard LDAP authentication will be easy in near future.

stay away from nis+ unless you need the security features....that seems to
be the general concensus. Personally, i run openldap to manage the users
and feed my nis maps from that via a perl program. LDAP is the future, but
I'm having some trouble getting aix to play nice with it. I saw a
reference once to using an openldap server for aix authentication, but
can't find it again.

How many you are using NIS or NIS+. I have a shop with 10 servers and
5 flavors of UNIX. I think this would be a perfect place to use NIS. What
are your thoughts?
