IBM/AIX support states it's impossible to do this. I have done some dd's to
tapes across a network before but it's flaky and not officially supported.
You may want to look into a product called I believe: "nettape". Thanks!.

hello Ken,

The only experience i have using a rmt0 device over a local network is to
use GNU tar.
You can download it from http://www.gnu.org
