/opt is a nice place to put installed software components, it is where you
would install much of the software files. That's what it is designed for in
Linux. As AIX becomes more and more Linux-like, it introduced the /opt
directory so that when you use other programs like rpm to install software,
it installs the rpms in a native fasion.

This is for the "L" in "5L". Linux. Linux and other UNIX variants have
the "/opt" directory. I would venture to say it is just making the AIX
release more apt to support Linux and other *NIX applications.

Hi,

Who can share with me about /opt in AIX 5L , what is it designed for?
I saw Tivoli, freeware within it, am I able to run the file or to make use
of the stuff there?
