ok. Thanks for the feedback.

PCI runs at 33 or 66 Mhz. PCI-X can also run at 100 or 133 Mhz. So,
theoretically, you could have twice the throughput internally...

Think USB 1.0 versus USB 2.0. PCI-X is much faster. One issue with
this
is found on older architectures. I found that a 6H1 capped at around
1200Mbps
for the entire machine because the PCI-X cards were flooding the
processors.
You really need p630's or greater to take advantage of PCI-X.

Do you know, from a throughput perspective, how does PCI-X compare to
PCI?
Looks like I'd rather get the 5701 is possible but based on my OS level
now I may have to source
the 2975.

>>> TWilleat@MHP.SMHS.COM 05/07/04 03:30pm >>>

The 2975 is PCI and works with 4.3.3 and 5L; the 5701 is PCI-X and
works with 5L only. The 2975 is not being sold anymore, although my IBM
reseller said its possible to get them used...

Can someone clarify the difference betyween the 2975 and the 5701
adapters?
If I check the pci adapter placement guide I know I can verify if it is
compatable with my server
but I'm having a hard time figuring out which pci adapter guide
corresponds to which specific
adapter model. I have a mix of AIX 4.3.3 and 5L and my understanding
is I need the 2975
if I am still running AIX 4.3.3.
