I know for versioning of custom programs for our DB app we use CVS. I am only vaguely familiar with it since I wrote a script to promote the new code as well as commit the changes to CVS.

I used to use AIX's SCCS tools. Its part of AIX, I believe the fileset is bos.adt.sccs. It is ideal for script versioning.

Anybody have a slick implementation of file versioning they'd like to share
that would force a version number update on write? Any freeware tools?
