We also have ControlM, but it's not appropriate in this case.

What I'm writing are application startup/shutdown scripts for an HACMP
cluster and the file will be on a related system outside the cluster; in the
event of application takeover/startup/shutdown I need to take some actions
on the remote server, which will vary according to whether the remote
application was shutdown normally or not.

Like I said: easy enough to do, I was just hoping to find a neater
mechanism.
