Looks like the VG may have been modified with the chvg -T option. That
expands the amount of PP's per PV at the expense of the number of pv's in
the vg.

Subject: Too many PPs in a PV

I inherited a RS/6000 44P-270 running AIX 433 ML06. It has a volume group
called "sharevg" with the following settings:

rds1234:root: / > lsvg sharevg
VOLUME GROUP: sharevg VG IDENTIFIER: 0008140fc9666069
VG STATE: active PP SIZE: 4 megabyte(s)
VG PERMISSION: read/write TOTAL PPs: 4338 (17352
megabytes)
MAX LVs: 256 FREE PPs: 305 (1220
megabytes)
LVs: 5 USED PPs: 4033 (16132
megabytes)
OPEN LVs: 5 QUORUM: 2
TOTAL PVs: 1 VG DESCRIPTORS: 2
STALE PVs: 0 STALE PPs: 0
ACTIVE PVs: 1 AUTO ON: yes
MAX PPs per PV: 6096 MAX PVs: 5
rds1234:root: / >

How is it possible that the PP SIZE is only 4 Mb for a 18 Gb drive?
Doesn't AIX 4.3 restrict you to a MAX PPs per PV of 1016?

Here is the same box's rootvg.

rds1234:root: / > lsvg rootvg
VOLUME GROUP: rootvg VG IDENTIFIER: 0008140fa19742d0
VG STATE: active PP SIZE: 32 megabyte(s)
VG PERMISSION: read/write TOTAL PPs: 542 (17344
megabytes)
MAX LVs: 256 FREE PPs: 382 (12224
megabytes)
LVs: 15 USED PPs: 160 (5120
megabytes)
OPEN LVs: 14 QUORUM: 2
TOTAL PVs: 1 VG DESCRIPTORS: 2
STALE PVs: 0 STALE PPs: 0
ACTIVE PVs: 1 AUTO ON: yes
MAX PPs per PV: 1016 MAX PVs: 32
rds1234:root: / >

Now that looks right to me.

Any thoughts would be great.
