What happens when you run diag?

I dont think hdisk11 even exists (for whatever reasons ??) when you are
running extendvg.. Maybe it is in defined state who knows...

Try running extendvg on say.. hdisk100 (or just makeup some #) you will get
the
same error.

Try lspv & see if hdisk11 is there..most likely it wont. Then
also try lsdev -Cc disk... See if it is in 'defined' state & go from there.

Hope this helps a little

M80 running AIX 4.3.3

I was trying to add hdisk11 to a volume group. I am
getting the following error:

0516-024 hdisk11: Unable to open physical volume.
Either PV was not configured or could not be
      opened. Run diagnostics.
0516-792 extendvg: Unable to extend volume group.

However, I was able to add another hdisk(hdisk16) in
the same pack to this volume group without any
problem.

I did 'rmdev -dl hdisk11' and ran 'cfgmgr'. I
received the same error when I ran 'extendvg vgname
hdisk11'.

Any ideas, TIA
