Yes ,I have used BMR before but It was owned by Kernel Group (5-6 months
ago).restored Solaris using it .It works like NIM on AIX and jumpstart on
Solaris . once you type net install at OK prompt - It boots system from
network - installs operating system-create file systems -initiates
netbackups (bprestore) command to restore data ,and after restoring data it
reboots your system done - your original system is back online.

veritas is shipping it with netbackup 4.5 . I have installed it on solaris
.

BMR For AIX - I don't think BMR offers anything different than mksysb or
sysback .you can restore image from one system to physically different
system (cloning) using sysback or mksysb. Also veritas charges 1 to $3,000
per BMR client tier 3,tier 2 etc..) licenses .So if you have 100 systems
,you would have to pay minimum $100,000 for client licenses + BMR server
license(I think it is $12,000 -$15,000) and support charges etc..

We are sticking up with sysback and ufsdump for AIX and Sun.

Subject: Bare Metal Restore

Anyone out there using Bare Metal Restore (Veritas) ?

We are looking at it (actually, it is probably a bit farther along than
"looking at it"), and I had a question on how it handles restoring from a
physically different system then the original backup. For example - in a
disaster recovery or test.

I'm concerned about ODM issues and other stuff like that.

Anyone crossed this bridge before ?

Thanks, Bill.
